BRBC and faithful supporters have been an integral part of building churches in Malawi. Historically church buildings have been built of handmade clay bricks, with open windows and doors and grass roofs. During the rainy season, as the grass roofs deteriorate due to the heavy rains, the walls begin to collapse from the weight of the roof and the amount of rain that falls. Over the past several years, steel roofs have been paid for by Christians in the west; these roofs have made a significant difference to the longevity of many church buildings.
The Blantyre church was built as a result of donations from Bath Road Baptist Church and the opening celebration was held on June 1, 2014. This church building is in a major centre (an international airport is located in Blantyre along with commercial enterprises and educational institutions) and it was important for them to have a permanent building for worship.
Building church buildings is a partnership between Malawi (EBCM) and Bath Road Baptist Church along with other interested churches and individuals. Bath Road provides the steel roofs once the church has committed to build the foundation, walls and purchase the door(s) and “termite medicine” (poison). All of the installation work is done by church members and local contractors.
